I loved this book. I loved how it tackled really difficult contemporary issues within the stripped back setting of two African Villages. I loved the simple prose creating a feeling that it could have been passed down, word of mouth, through generation upon generation of village elders, encouraging debate, developing personal responsibility, and building social conscience. At its core, The Marriage is a story as old as time. A story of jealousy, lust and pride counter-balanced by the energy of love, forgiveness and acceptance. It’s a story about what it is to be human, and somehow through its pared back simplicity, the story of Maimuna and Akapwon angered me, moved me, and remained with me in a way that I was really not expecting.

Firstly, the story was hugely spell-binding and secondly, I felt it was highly educational due to the different life-styles and morals of the people in Ancient Africa.
A very interesting book, which shows that no matter what happens in your darkest moments, there is always light in the end; if you have the courage to persevere as Maimuna did.
Love can heal; as long as it is true and honestly given.
A wonderfully good read; certainly a page turner! Keep it up and I look forward to the sequel.

I found it difficult to put down. I like that the fact that moral lessons were learnt by individuals as a result of their own actions. The difference in the old customs compared to those of today was interesting.
I found it a most enjoyable experience.

This was a great read, although it takes on such a difficult subject matter. I really liked Akapwon’s character as well as Maimuna’s and thought that they had a very tender relationship, in spite of it being fraught with challenges. The fact that the story was based in ancient Africa made it all the more interesting and I loved that it was very rich in detail of customs, different foods and lovely fabric/textiles.

It’s a wonderful testimonial for love and trust and perseverance.

  9. I highly recommend this novel, which will satisfy those readers who want an imaginative read, a travel back in time to a land far away and yet brought directly to the reader’s armchair.

I can only hope there will be a forthcoming Audio-book available, so that I can hear a reading of this marvellous, mysterious and charmed debut novel of great eloquence and beauty. If there is a sequel, I will be looking forward to reading and reading it for each and every nuance I know I will find!”
